A reliable favorite for anyone that love Indian cuisine. Taj India has been a fixture of the culinary scene in Birmingham and has been providing excellent food to the city for decades. No matter what you get on the menu, it is sure to always be nourishing for both the body and soul. My favorite item to order is always the vegetarian Navrattan korma. Hearty and warming, it is a cacophony of different complimentary flavor that coalesce to form a dish that is savory and spiced, yet creamy with hints of fruit and nuts. The social experience of Taj India is similarly marvelous. Beautifully decorated and expansive, the dining room is a comfortable and well lit space with plenty of seating. Most notable in this space, however, is the delectable aroma of spiced stews imbued in the air - cinnamon, cardamon, cloves, cumin, and ginger all imbue the atmosphere with an enticing smell. Service is friendly and quick, and though at times the wait may be a little long due to the crowd of other hungry patrons, the hosts make sure you feel attended to. I cannot say enough compliments about Taj India.
Good food. There is the expected buffet line with a variety of foods: soup, rice, veg dishes, meat dishes, salads and chutneys. Even serve yourself dessert. When you get to your table they will bring you a basket of naan. The chai is good and the mango lassi is nice too. I am always happy with this place.
LIFE IS SO DAAL WITHOUT YOU! Met a friend of mine here for dinner. They are vegetarian. Since I had invited them out for dinner they let me select the spot. But I haven't dabbled too much in the vegetarian scene. I had heard from co workers that Taj has amazing vegetarian options. When I arrived I was seated very quickly. Was given both the food menu and the drink menu to look over while waiting on my friend. Loved how cozy and warm this spot is. It really gives off a homey vibe. Since it's been very cold outside, this was the perfect spot as the majority of their dishes are hot whether that is in temperature or spice wise. I ordered a mango lassi which was new to me. A delicious frozen beverage with combines yogurt, mangos and sometimes tapioca. It was recommended to me since it is the perfect beverage to counteract any spicy food. And most Indian food dishes are spicy. I wanted to be respectful to my friend so I ordered a vegetarian meal as they did. The dish chosen combined potatoes, eggplant and a mildly spicy tomato sauce. It was so good especially when served with basmati rice and garlic naan. Taj Indian used to be located over near Highland Park but has now moved to the Lakeview area. Honestly this location is probably better than their previous location. As it pulls in a different type of business in. I will definitely be returning here. They have so much to offer and all items I've tried were fantastic!
This place is always so good! The food is full of flavor and comes out steaming hot. The service is always friendly and fast as well, and it is a great place to catch up with friends, or go by yourself and try a new dish! My favorite is their korma dishes. I have had both the lamb and mushroom korma before, and both are delicious.
Absolutely a great meal and one of the most friendly and attentive staffs we have ever had. Top notch! Dinner was amazing also! Started with vegetable Pakora, very nice. My wife had the vegetarian Navrattan Korma. She loved it. I had the Chicken Tikka Masala. Full of flavor with a slight residual kick. Great dish. We ended the meal with Gulab Jamun, very sweet but good. Overall a wonderful dinner before the symphony. They will see us again.
Taj India's new location is absolutely gorgeous. What a transformation! Light and bright, the dining areas are spacious and inviting. Expect white tablecloths and friendly folks. The familiar lunch buffet is at the back of the restaurant near the kitchen. If you're unsure of Indian food this is the absolute best way of trying several different things to see what you like. Everything I get is always fresh and delicious, and this visit was no exception. There are even super approachable dishes that feel familiar- like chicken tandoor- so, if you're not the adventurous type you'll still have options.
I went in October 2023 with a friend for Sunday lunch. We did the buffet. Neither of us had very much experience with Indian food. Not really sure what to order and how the spices are incorporated so it was worth it to try the buffet to get to try several different things. It did not disappoint at all. We got to try different meats, beans, sauces, a soup, and a dessert. There is a label above each dish, that let us know what it was so we didn't have to ask. The staff was very kind. The food is heavily seasoned. I like spicy food a lot, so I was a fan of most everything that I tried. It was a good experience, and I highly recommend it.
We have always been a family of Taj India, but the new place is so much better! Well lit, more spacious, more parking spaces, all around better. Food is the same as before, which is good, and the fresh naan is as amazing as ever! Service is better than before in my opinion as they now have more help due to the larger location. I am a fan and look forward to going again already!
